I hiked up a Scottish ‘mini mountain’ and it is the perfect autumn walk

With September in full swing, I wanted to head out on a proper autumn hike to celebrate the new season. With so many amazing Scottish beauty spots and hiking trails to choose from, though, I wasn’t sure where to go.

While Scotland is home to countless idyllic forests and picturesque parks, me and my partner wanted to challenge ourselves a bit. Therefore, we decided that we wanted to climb a mountain.

There are unsurprisingly many mountains across the country, from Ben Nevis to Ben Macdui. However, even for experienced climbers these can be extremely challenging.

As we looked online for a summit to climb, I came across the perfect compromise. Ben A’an in the Trossachs is a hill that is often referred to as a ‘mountain in miniature’ due to its pointed peak that resembles a small mountain.

Ben A’an has a summit of 461 metres, with the walk to and from its peak is just over two miles in length. While I initially thought this sounded too quick and easy, I was unprepared for how tricky the climb would get at points.

Read on to find out how I got on with my hike up Ben A’an.
